New trailer that came out yesterday. To think that this was once a XBOX exclusive. :P

I can't really see a DS version of the game working all that well either, besides the fact that the mini-games might be more enjoyable, or at least orginal.

Also, personally the song does not sound that nice to me...I'm sure there will be many old ones to pick from as well though. Girls look less cute too... hrm... but the other girls are all still there...

Guess only time will tell.

Doki Majo Plus - New Screens

Releasing in late July comes another sequel to a great game series. I'm sure I will have long since finished Gyakuten Kenji by the time it comes out (heck, i give it 2 days...), but this is also a definite play... it's just too cute.

A couple of new screens appeared on various sites with some new info, looks very similar to the previous games, with many familiar faces. Seems to focus a bit more on dates with the girls now though...

Seems like a similar movement system, quite weird to see a small version of Miho in the middle like that though. I love the one icon on the left side of the first picture... The adventure part is the same as always, but there is apparently a new part called the 'Sweet Communication' part. It seems they are focusing a bit more on auctually making a relationship with the girls now.

I can just picture it now... 'Eek! please take it off me!'.... 'don't touch me there!'.

1) Time to attack!
2) Feint attack!
3) Charge!
No option to run... and anyway, that thing does not look cute, what have they done?

The fighting mini-game is similar looking. Apparently there will be various other mini-games again as well.

Definitely worth a try, at least. I admit I got too bored of the 2nd one to ever finish it... can't remember why exactly, I think another game came out and I got distracted or something...

Over the weekend my computer passed away, so all the inspiration I brought up to get this blog going kind of died away... at least momentarily.

Hopefully I will get it fixed, and start posting again shortly.

Cross of Venus is fun, but gets boring kinda fast... I found a second hand DSi for really cheap so bought it... it's a pity I can't play my R4 games on it though... need to get a DSTTi... not that I have the money thanks to my computer deciding to pass away. hah.

RURUTIA - Yume Hotaru

I'm not certain how to read the title of this song, it's either Yume Hotaru or "Mukei"; both end up meaning "Dream Firefly" however.

This song compares the similarity of 'snow' to the 'fading light of a firefly, constantly comparing the two. If I was to try to read a message out of the song, it would be "everything is but a fleeting existence."

I remember a few weeks back telling a friend how little I trust people, and how 'promises are but a fleeting existence'. I think this song fuels those thoughts quite nicely - although the song itself may be referring to the world as a whole, and how everything eventually will eventually pass, to me it really seemed like a lonesome song, primarily referring to how 'light', life, and trust will all pass away eventually. If anyone has another interpretation I'd love to hear it. ^^

Project Diva, the Miku Dress-Up Game

Famitsu did another preview for Project Diva yesterday, revealing some new sceenshots and features. It seems kind of like a PSP version of Ouendan, but just with a cute Hatsune Miku. Seems like a win to me. You can also dress Miku in various costumes as seen below.

The game is simply made up as any rhythm game - you simply press the button in time to the music, and by doing it correctly Miku will sing and dance to the song. It is due to make use of various popular Miku songs, including some from OYSTER project. The classic 'Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru' is also a define. I must say the graphics do look nicely rounded for a PSP game; around at the level of Crisis Core even; if not better.

At the end of any song, every 'move' you make is placed as one of five ratings, "WORST, SAD, SAFE, FINE, and COOL"; depending on how close you hit to the beat. Your score is determined by these ratings. If you create a combo for long enough you reach a state called "CHANCE TIME" which causes your score to increase faster. Other than the 3D backgrounds there will also be 2D background songs; simply og illustrations. I think thats a good thing as it will mean more songs? I hope so at least.

At the end of the level, you are given a final rating as one of the following: CHEAP, NORMAL, GREAT or PERFECT. If you miss too many it ends the level immediately as a game over, which the game calls a "MISS TAKE" (lol.)

One of the new features announced is a system that unlocks new costumes for Miku. By reaching certain goals you can unlock more outfits for her, which will then reflect in all the songs you play thereafter. There are only screenshots of a Gothic Miku and a Pirate Miku so far. I look forward to a catear Miku. Other readable names in the list include "Cheerleader", "Plugin", "Princess", "Miko", "Nyanko", "China", "Magician", "White Dress", "VN02" and "Galaxy".

And hence she appears as the costume you select in all the 3D videos in the game:

The next feature is editing the songs to how you want them displayed. You can set the location, how Miku dances and moves around, as well as where the "target" buttons appear on the screen - allowing full customization of any song, or so it seems. There does not seem to be anyway to add your own songs, however. Zannen.

Definitely another game to look forward to. With that said though, tomorrow sees the release of Cross Of Venus! Can't wait to try that one out. Decided to finally get a DSi as well, my old DS phat really needs to retire.

The system works with a couple of seperate tabs - you no longer just have 'evidence' you also have a 'logic' tab where you need to combine to pieces of information to come to a logical conclusion. It was very basic in the trial but I expect when you get a good line of information putting it together will be quite fun. The next most different aspect os of course moving around; seen you really do move now, not just see scenes and move between them. When I first saw the system I thought it a bit strange, but I quite came to like it.

But wait! no more court? Yep, so it seems.
But they keep the questioning aspect; you simply hear what other people say happened at the crime scene, and find the contradictions in that. All in all I quite enjoyed it as a trial, the music was also very Gyakuten-esque, I particullarly liked the plain background music in the office while moving around.

Oh god, she became more moe! Kawaii!

Why do all the good games take so long to come out. Sigh. On the bright side, Cross Of Venus is just around the corner; just in time for my holidays. Better be good.

Now for some translation theory.

Looking at the original translation was kind of nostalgic as one of my old translations, where I kinda just took word for word the Japanese and put it into English forming some kind of non sensical pool of mush ^^;

People seem to lose track of how grammar works when in a song. For instance, the line "egao wa Illumination, hora kazatte ageru" is essentially comparing smiles to Christmas lights, and to break down the meaning would be to simply say "I'm smiling for you". If you put this very directly you get what the original translator put:

'Smiles are illuminations, see? I'll decorate them.'

Now, is it just me or does that make very little sense? It seems to completely lose the meaning. Where is the fact that the singer is 'smiling'?
The meaning is completely lost as the translator clearly didn't look at the song as a whole, and try to make sense of it.

'Smiles are just like Christmas lights,
so look, I'm shining just for you!'

Doesn't that make it easier to understand the meaning? Or am I biased to my own translations? :P

That said, there are admittedly many times when I am at a loss on how to place something in English, so I guess it's just practice.

A long time back, I first came across this game, and have been following it since it was announced. I must say, at the start I was really exited about the game, the music sounded great and it looked really interesting from all the youtube videos.

I subscribed to the homepage's RSS feed and kept up with everything bob went through, from looking for publishers to applying for a developers kit from Nintendo. But then after awhile of nothing happening, bob started doing very strange things on his site, initially boarding himself up in a room for 100 days as a stand against Nnintendo (how the heck does that work?). Thereafter it continued to more wonderful things such as alien abductions and whatnot, it was all very entertaining. Although when he went and stuck his game all over a real store, people began to wonder his sanity.

But the reason I'm posting this now, is due to his most recent video, which I find most intriguing - he gives a possible explanation of the actual point of 'bob's game'; and it is simply a clone of what he has been going through all the time - you play a game where the main character is a developer trying to sell his game - the 'best game ever made'. If that's true then I wonder if it was all planned from the start?

It's definitely a very interesting sounding game in my opinion, so I hope that isn't a lie. This 'Robert' is also a very good voice actor methinks, I think he really does his videos well. Particularly this one.

Anyway, I hope to see bob's game on my DS one day, the music on his videos alone makes me want to play it. Hope he releases a soundtrack...

This song is so weird. I think it's really long metaphor comparing Hatsune Miku to a huge cyclone. I could be interpreting it completely wrong though...

That's the thing about these Miku songs, I'm sure the lyrics are just made to fit as well as possible, so sometimes it kinda jumps around randomly. The other problem was the fact that I have to refer to some subject in English, even though it's never really done in the song, hence I used "I" all the time, as if the cyclone was speaking. (to follow my metaphor idea? :P)

Anyway, I put it into English as best I could. ^^

On another random note, I started playing Go online again. I lose a lot.
